Description

The Technical Open Day is an annual event designed to humanize the school and break down barriers between the institution, science and society by deconstructing stereotypes associated with scientific people. The event, held once a year on a Saturday, invites the general public, including elementary and secondary school students, as well as college and graduate candidates, to explore Técnico's academic and research offerings. Through projects that are often less visible outside the academic community, the quality of the school is demonstrated. Throughout the day, more than 40 interactive exhibits designed to appeal to different age groups present research and innovation projects, allowing participants to interact with experiments and projects led by the student body and faculty. In addition, guided tours of the teaching and research labs offer a first-hand look at the work being done at Técnico, while interactive discussions and activities with faculty and researchers provide a deeper understanding of current scientific issues, academic life at Técnico, its opportunities and potential career paths. In addition to the logistical aspects and the effort to mobilize the school to contribute to the initiative, key implementation aspects include regular meetings between the organization (Communication Area) and representatives of the scientific departments, research units and other stakeholders. These meetings help to gather input, align expectations and ensure that the event meets the needs of all involved. Also, during the event, data is collected on the origin and expectations of visitors, in order to monitor attendance and better understand the audience for future editions.
