Next Thursday, January 23rd, 2025, will be held at the Aula Capella of the ETSEIB of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), a round table entitled "Challenges of STEM outreach activities". This event will be held within the framework of activities of the Erasmus+ project ELA4ATTRACT and will bring together leading professionals from various sectors to address the progress and challenges of outreach initiatives in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), with a particular emphasis on activities designed to attract historically underrepresented groups, such as women and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
Objective of the event
The roundtable aims to discuss the challenges and opportunities for promoting participation in STEM among diverse groups, offering a comprehensive view of current initiatives and programs. The focus will be on the importance of generating inclusive and accessible activities that foster vocations and interest in STEM disciplines from an early age.
Moderator and Panelists
The session will be moderated by Núria Castell, PhD in Computer Engineering from the UPC and activist in the promotion of gender equality in the technological field. Núria has held several relevant positions, such as dean of the Faculty of Computer Science of Barcelona (FIB-UPC), and is currently Vice-Dean of Presidency, Equality and Ethics at the Official College of Computer Engineering of Catalonia.
The panel will include:
- Jordi Regalés, Engineer and teacher with 40 years of experience in secondary education, President of the Catalan Society of Technology. He has been an advocate of educational innovation and a trainer of educators.
- Laura Ivern, Engineer and Deputy Director of the College/Association of Industrial Engineers of Catalonia. Promoter of various initiatives to inspire STEM vocations among young people, such as the publication of the story "The magic of engineering".
- Francesc Rambla, Telecommunications Engineer, current member of the Secretariat of Digital Policies of the Generalitat de Catalunya. His work focuses on the development of digital policies and the promotion of technological vocations.
- Núria Raventós Pagès, Project Manager at Oracle Consulting, with an outstanding track record in promoting female leadership in technology. She is also the driving force behind the Oracle4Girls program, which seeks to motivate girls to explore STEM studies.
A Space for Reflection and Dialogue
This roundtable is presented as a key space to share experiences, ideas and solutions on how to encourage participation in STEM, with an inclusive approach to break down the barriers that still persist in these fields. Collaboration between different actors - such as educators, industry professionals and institutional representatives - is essential to create a more diverse and accessible ecosystem in the STEM world.
Don't miss your chance to be part of this important conversation for the future of STEM outreach!
