It is the largest public university in Portugal and comprises 18 different schools, one of which is the Instituto Superior Técnico (Técnico Lisboa), the largest and most reputable school of Engineering, Science, Technology and Architecture in the country. Since its creation in 1911, Técnico Lisboa aims to contribute to the development of society by promoting and sharing excellence in Higher Education in the fields of Architecture, Engineering, Science and Technology, with about 11,300 students (29% of them women). It also provides lifelong learning and develops Research, Development and Innovation activities, essential to provide an education based on the highest international standards. Its mission is expressed, therefore, in the three functions that characterize the concept of a modern university: generating knowledge, providing trained professionals, and transferring and applying knowledge and innovation through the creation of cutting-edge science and technology.
